Wrinkle Relaxers:
Botox & Dysport

Fast Facts on
Botox & Dysport

  • Botox is a medical product named after its main ingredient: Botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin – the thing that makes Botox, Botox – works by preventing muscle contraction. If the muscle can’t move, the skin won’t wrinkle,

  • Botox was FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles in 2002, with Dysport closely following in 2009. (Dysport is also botulinum toxin, it’s just a different brand. Because #capitalism).

    • Botox vs. Dysport: Which one should you get? Our providers will let you know, but there’s very little difference between the two!

  • We dose Botox/Dysport by “units”. We price treatments by units as well – not by flat rates per treatment area, bundles, etc.

  • Speaking of units: clinical dosage for the 3 most common areas (crows feet, glabellar/”11 lines”, and the forehead) is 64 units. Every face is different and you might not need all 64 depending on your goals… but don’t expect 16 units to treat your whole face.

  • Botox/Dysport takes 2 weeks to fully “kick in” and lasts 3-4 months based off of your body metabolism. Sometimes one side/section might wear off faster than the other.

  • The more consistent you are in getting Botox/Dysport, the less you have to get and the less you have to come. Over time, your muscles weaken enough that they don’t require as much.

  • If you get it once and never get it again, don’t worry, your wrinkles won’t come back worse or anything. You just go back to your natural, pre-Botox self.

  • If you have deep or static wrinkles (aka “wrinkles at rest”), it will take time and multiple treatments to lessen those lines. Be patient. Trust your provider.

  • While there’s no real downtime (although we suggest not working out/strenuous activities for 2 days post-injection), you do often leave your appointment with little bee-sting bumps. They go away quickly though, so your boss won’t know where you ran off to on your lunch break.

  • As with anything that involves a needle, there is a chance of bruising. Our injectors are highly trained and use suuuper tiny needles, but it can happen.
